TreeMappa 2.0 is an education project which aims to use drama, art and new media to explore environmental issues, cultural heritage and creative expression of ideas.

Tree-Mappa 2.0 has involved interested teachers, their students and CQUniversity students in creating stories and digital content about significant trees in the area. Utilising drama, art & new media children and young people have engaged with Sunshine Coast based history and stories (Indigenous, post settlement & contemporary) to create mediatised content to share with local and international communities.

Project brief (from 2010)
  • Tree Mappa 2.0 participants will collaborate with artists, museums and the local community to create digital content. The opportunity to work with leading international arts and multi-media company, C & T (from the UK), will enable the project to connect with an international audience and build capacity within the creative arts and education sectors on the Sunshine Coast .
  • Tree-Mappa 2.0 will enable young people and their communities to use drama and other artforms as tools to encode their histories, values, landmarks and milestones and share them through online social networking technologies.
  • Tree-Mappa 2.0 will take initially place as part of the TreeLineprogram which is a major regional project on the Sunshine Coast Region in 2010. Treeline is a Greenart initiative, which aims to connect communities and ecosystems through creativity, research and education. TreeLine will involve visual and new media arts, theatre, dance, music, sculpture and storytelling, and will actively involve participants in the creative process. Through a celebration of significant trees, participants will raise awareness of local and global issues, and encourage environmental action through eco-art practices. See the introductory on the program from the Education Launch. Also available on Slideshare.
  • Tree-Mappa 2.0 will be managed by CQUniversity - a lead agency for pre-service teacher education in the Sunshine Coast region.
